of Life: Conversations with Old-Time Musicians from Virginia and North Carolina - This volume is a history of fiddle and banjo music in Southwestern Virginia and Northern North Carolina, as told by the musicians responsible
for the music. Strings of Life represents more than fifteen years of research and visits with old-time musicians and their
families. The opening chapter of String of Life draws parallels between two sorts of traditional music, Irish and American,
and discusses the diasporas from Ireland, Scotland, and Africa. The Bibliography includes some thirty Irish and Scots-Irish references.
